SAFETY

What goes into Aurora Lites, how the colored flame works, and why it is safe when used as directed.

What Is in an Aurora Lites Firestarter?

Aurora Lites are composite firestarters built from a combustible base of wax and fiber binders combined with metal-salt colorants that produce the signature blue and green flame. The base provides the long, steady burn; the colorants are responsible for the vivid aurora hues. Every ingredient is a standard, well-understood compound used in pyrotechnic and fireplace color products for decades.

How the Colored Flame Works

Colored flames come from metal salts heated in the fire. Copper compounds produce blue and green hues — the same chemistry behind traditional fireplace color cones. When the firestarter burns, the heat excites the metal atoms, which release light at specific wavelengths. It is the same principle as a fireworks display, scaled down to a campfire.

Are the Ingredients Safe?

Aurora Lites are designed for outdoor campfires, fire pits, and well-ventilated indoor fireplaces with a working chimney. The colorants are used in trace amounts and burn off as visible color. As with any combustion product, the smoke should always vent freely — never burn Aurora Lites in an enclosed space, a sealed wood stove, or any unventilated area.

Not for Cooking

Aurora Lites are an ambiance and fire-starting product, not a cooking fuel. The colored flame is decorative and the firestarter is not food-safe. Never use Aurora Lites to start a fire you intend to cook over directly. Let the firestarter burn away completely and build your cooking fire from clean wood and kindling afterward.

Handling and Storage Safety

Treat Aurora Lites like any combustible: keep them away from open flame and heat sources until you are ready to use them, store them sealed and dry, and keep them out of reach of children and pets. Avoid inhaling smoke directly. If you have respiratory sensitivities, enjoy the colored flame from a comfortable distance and ensure good airflow around your fire.
